Information We Collect
Outway can process the following categories of information:
- Your selected city, or your device location coordinates if you choose to use current location.
- Your in-app preferences such as cold sensitivity, time outside, activity type, temperature unit, and onboarding completion state.
- Cached weather and reverse geocoding results stored on your device to improve reliability and offline fallback behavior.
- If you send weather feedback, Firebase Firestore may store your feedback choice, timestamp, app version, build number, a pseudonymous installation identifier, and a weather snapshot or related technical context needed to evaluate forecast accuracy.
- If you use a limited pre-release closed tester profile flow when it is enabled for a test build, a nickname, install identifier, join source, app version, build number, platform, onboarding completion state, and activity timestamps may be stored in Firebase Firestore.
- In release versions, Firebase Analytics events about app usage and Firebase Crashlytics crash or error reports may be collected.
How We Use Information
- To show local weather-based clothing and preparation guidance.
- To remember your city selection and app preferences on your device.
- To cache weather data for faster loading and fallback when network requests fail.
- To evaluate weather accuracy signals and improve forecast interpretation and guidance quality over time.
- To organize closed testing participation and track tester activity when the tester profile feature is used in limited pre-release testing.
- To understand app usage patterns and diagnose stability problems in release builds.
Location Data
You can manually select a city or choose to use your device's current location. Current location access is optional and is used to fetch weather guidance for the area around you.
The selected location is stored locally on your device. Current coordinates are sent to weather and reverse geocoding providers only when needed to retrieve forecast data or resolve a nearby place name.
Data Storage
Outway stores preferences, selected location, weather cache, reverse geocoding cache, and closed tester check-in state in local device storage using SharedPreferences.
Weather feedback submissions are stored in Firebase Firestore with a pseudonymous installation identifier rather than a user account. Outway does not require account creation, and this data is not directly tied to a named personal account in the app.
If you use the closed tester profile flow in a supported test build, related tester profile and activity metadata are also stored in Firebase Firestore.
Third-Party Services
- Firebase Analytics for release usage analytics.
- Firebase Crashlytics for release crash and error reporting.
- Firebase Firestore for weather feedback records and limited pre-release tester profile or activity records.
- Open-Meteo for weather forecasts and city search.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim for reverse geocoding when current location is used.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. Information is shared only with the service providers needed to operate the app features described in this policy.
Children's Privacy
Outway is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data Retention
Local data remains on your device until you clear app data, reset the app from development tools where available, or uninstall the app. Firestore weather feedback, optional tester records from pre-release testing, and release telemetry may be retained for as long as needed to operate, monitor, and improve the app.
Data Deletion
If you want to request deletion of app-related data, please review our data deletion instructions here: Outway Data Deletion
